Our Story

I'm Shannon Doyle, breeder behind Northern Bluegrass Weimaraners located in rural Wisconsin where, between cows and corn, I live with my husband, Jeff, and our dogs. We believe that our Weimaraners are the perfect canine companions because they are intelligent, quirky, hardworking, and affectionate. Our puppies are healthy, happy, and of the highest quality as shown by the genetic documentation of their parents. Our goal is to breed an excellent field performer as well as a loving addition to your family.

We decided to start breeding because we wanted to share our love for Weimaraners with others and provide the opportunity to experience the joy these dogs have brought to our lives. We differentiate ourselves from our competitors by providing high-quality puppies that are not only beautiful, but also smart, trainable, and adhere to breed standards. We believe that our longhaired Weimaraners are the best in the business, and we want to share that with you.

I am dedicated to the health and wellness of the breed and feel it is reflected in our puppies. We breed with integrity.  The pedigrees, health certifications, and genetics of the parents  were selected with great care. The result is a litter of 6 beautiful puppies who have already demonstrated the drive to work and cuddle.

Where my Love of Weimaraners began...

I grew up with short-haired Weimaraners. My aunt bred them for hunting and gave me my first puppy, Jake, for my 12th birthday.   My love for the breed grew with my first dog. I have always admired the long haired variety and finally acquired my first one in 2018, Waylon. At the time, I was working as a special education professional in a public school district and Waylon became my work partner as a therapy dog. At the end of 2018, Isabel was entrusted to me by her wonderful breeder with the hope that she would eventually become the foundation of our program. We entered the sporting world together competing in several different events. Her trainability is a testament to the breed. Isabel and Waylon have been shining examples of long haired Weimaraners.   We are striving to produce dogs that have the structure, temperament, and desire to perform that they were initially bred for. Northern Bluegrass Weimaraners is committed to breeding quality dogs with a focus on health, temperament, and trainability. My goal is intelligent partners in the field and loving family companions in the home.

Shannon's Experience

I have worked with animals most of my adult life, starting with a local horse breeding farm. In 2020, I was hired by a dog training company as a lead trainer. There, I taught basic and advanced obedience, CGC, tricks, and parkour classes. I now work for the most reputable training company in the Wisconsin area, initially founded by renowned applied animal behaviorist, Dr. Patricia McConnell. Our methods are based upon her research on positive reinforcement versus punitive measures. I am currently leading puppy and beginning adult obedience classes, and some sporting classes. Additionally, I provide individualized in-home behavior consultations for clients struggling with a variety of dog related challenges. This work has led me to pursuing my Masters in Animal Behavior and Training through Unity College. I apply passion for studying behavior with my own dogs. We train using positive markers for desirable behaviors. We do not use physical or verbal reprimands. We have even tempered, confident dogs who thrive in a variety of environments and situations.
